WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT YOURSELF

There is no shortage of occasions where we hear our friends or even ourselves list countless things we don’t like about ourselves. It may be something as simple as looking through some pictures, looking in the mirror or listening to our voicemail that evoke these self loathing comments. Why is it so normal to quickly list the things we think are wrong with us but to highlight  our good qualities is so rare and often looked on as an unhealthy pride.

As we move into a new year we encourage you to flip the script on those negative conversations. Look for the good qualities you possess both on the inside and outside. This requires some deep honest self reflection but the impact can be life changing. Speak these truths out loud and use them to replace those statements that begin with “ I hate/ don’t like my.....”

When you find those qualities that you like don’t be afraid to highlight them. If your shoulders are flattering wear that off the shoulder top. If you are a good listener be that shoulder that your friends can lean on.

Don’t think it vain to highlight your positives. The key is to do it with moderation and humility.  I’m not suggesting that we become oblivious of  those features that we might not find appealing. The task is not to allow those to dominate our view of ourselves and at the same time find our good features and play those up..

We have to balance the scale and not let our self mirror only reflect our flaws. Our internal and external dialogues are profound so focus on our good qualities and let that generate a positive view of ourselves, both on the inside and outside.
